It’s been said the volunteers are the backbone of our Sigma Chi Fraternity. While that is most definitely true, the Grand Praetors are the muscles that help guide the direction of those volunteers.
Sigma Chi currently has 55 Grand Praetors who are elected each biennium to a two year term by the undergraduates in their province. Our 2025 Grand Chapter saw the election of 14 new Grand Praetors, 10 of which met at HQ this month for training in this unique role.
Grand Praetors advise chapters in their provinces, maintain general knowledge of their condition, and work to improve their standing in scholarship, morals, and discipline. They are required to visit each chapter at least once a year, and to report their observations and recommendations in writing to the Executive Committee. They are empowered to appoint chapter advisors and ritual peers at each chapter, and to enforce the Fraternity’s Governing Laws and Ritual in their province.
